Sonic Frontiers System Requirements: What You Need to Know

Sonic Frontiers System Requirements

Sega’s supersonic blue hedgehog is back once again for another adventure. Except for this time, he has a vast new open world to explore. If you’re thinking of taking the plunge and buying Sonic Frontiers, then make sure you know what system requirements you need first…

 About Sonic Frontiers

Sonic Frontiers represents Sega’s attempt to take the Sonic franchise in a radical new direction.

In fact, Sonic Frontiers is Sonic’s first foray into the world of open-world platforming. This, given Sonic’s formidable speed, could prove to be a challenge – not only to the game’s developers – but those looking to play the game at high frame rates and resolutions.

So far, the game has received tolerably good reviews, with many reviewers commending Sega’s ambitious effort to refresh a franchise that in recent years had become somewhat stagnant.

The game features the elements that devoted Sonic fans have come to expect, such as grind rails, collecting gold rings and the development of Sonic lore. However, these have been added to with a new generation of ‘battle mechanics’ and a whole heap of new abilities, including the exciting-looking ‘Cyloop’ ability.

[Text Wrapping Break]Despite this, however, many reviewers have commented on the game’s near-continual environment pop-in, whereby the game is unable to keep up with Sonic’s legendary speed.

Many reviews have commented on how large objects such as trees, fences and other obstacles will randomly pop into view during the open-world sections of the game. In some instances, reviewers have even found the ground not loading, resulting in Sonic falling through the map.

With these points in mind, you’re going to want to make sure your PC has the specs to keep Sonic – and the world he inhabits – running at top speed…

What specifications do you need for Sonic Frontiers?

So, what specifications should your PC have if you’re going to enjoy a decent Sonic Frontiers experience?

The minimum requirements for playing Sonic Frontiers on your PC:

  Minimum Requirements
Operating System  Windows 10 (64-bit)
CPU (Processor)  Intel Core i5-3470 / AMD Ryzen 5 1400
GPU (Graphics Card)  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2 GB) / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB)
RAM (Memory)  8 GB
Disk Space  30 GB available

Bear in mind that these are the absolute minimum requirements you’re going to need to play Sonic Frontiers.

With this level of specifications, you’re only going to be able to play at 30 FPS at 720p resolution, with the graphics turned down to low settings – at most.

Whilst you’ll be able to play the game at these settings, if you want to play it on a large monitor, it’s not going to look great. In fact, you’re really not going to be getting the full Sonic Frontiers experience.

What are the recommended requirements for playing Sonic Frontiers on your PC?

If you want to enjoy the best Sonic Frontiers experience – and which Sonic fan wouldn’t? – then you’re going to want to make sure your PC has a decent amount of processing and graphical firepower.

Below are our recommended specifications for running Sonic Frontiers:

  Recommended Requirements
Operating System  Windows 10 (64-bit)
CPU (Processor)  Intel Core i5-6600 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
GPU (Graphics Card)  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8 GB) / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 (8 GB)
RAM (Memory)  12 GB
Disk Space  30 GB available

Luckily, these aren’t outrageously high specifications and should be within reach of the majority of PC gamers – especially if they’ve purchased their PC within the last few years.

With a PC that has these specifications, you should be able to run Sonic Frontiers at 1080p at 30 FPS.

If your system exceeds these settings, then you’ll be getting into 60 FPS territory, meaning you’ll be able to enjoy Sonic at his fastest and smoothest.

What is the best PC for playing Sonic Frontiers?

With all of the above in mind, you might be wondering what type of PC will be best for playing Sonic Frontiers – especially if you’re thinking about an upgrade in the near future.

We’ve shopped around the major gaming PC builders and have found some real gems that’ll let you play Sonic Frontiers at high settings, without breaking your wallet.

Our particular favorite is the Horizon 5M Intel RTX 3050 Gaming PC from CCL Online. With a 12th gen Alder Lake Intel Core i5 processor, an RTX 3050 graphics card, and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, this system exceeds the system requirements of Sonic Frontier, whilst keeping everything at a reasonable price.

It’s also got 500 GB of SSD storage, so it’ll have plenty of room left over for the rest of your game collection.

Conclusion

If you’re looking to enjoy Sonic Frontiers as it was intended – fast, frenetic and at the speed of sound – then we’d recommend erring on the side of caution and using a PC that has a specification that exceeds the recommended system requirements as set out by Sega.
