PlayStation is Shutting Down Servers of Long Running Exclusive SingStar

Singstar Servers

PlayStation has announced that it is finally pulling the plug of its long-running franchise SingStar and all online servers of the game will be shut down on January 31, 2020. This was announced by PlayStation when they sent out emails to all PlayStation users informing them about the server shut down.

Sony also mentioned that all offline features of SingStar will continue to exist and only the offline features of SingStar will cease to exist. Players will still be able to:

  • Play songs on physical discs
  • Play digital songs that have previously been purchased and downloaded to the hard-drive
  • Only PS4 users will be able to re-download previously downloaded and deleted songs. If any PS3 or PS2 player deletes a song, they will not be able to re-download it.
  • Play Party Mode
  • Track and record high scores offline
  • Take and store videos and snapshots onto your PlayStation hard drive
  • Create song playlists

This shows that all offline features will still be available to players with PS4 players having access to re-downloads as well. At this point, players have around 3 months to use the online features of SingStar before they are taken down so if anyone still wants to try it out before the servers shut down, they can do so until January 31, 2020. This was due to happen soon because Sony stopped supporting the title in 2017 anyway.

The last content released for SingStar was back in 2017 and since then, the game has been literally dead with nothing new coming to it. This was a clear sign that players were moving away from the game and now Sony is finally axing the game. SingStar is not a new franchise for Sony by any means. It started its journey back on PS2 in 2004 and saw the best days on PS3.
