Eschatos Physical

Eschatos is a polygonal vertical shoot-’em-up developed by Qute Corporation. It was initially released exclusively on the Xbox 360 in Japan and the game has since gained a cult following. Eschatos follows the story where aliens have taken over the moon and now threaten to do the same to Earth. It is your job to prevent that from happening as you use your ship with its three different functions to take them out.

The three functions offer different functions. The Front Shot shoots a powerful beam in a straight line, the Wide Shot shoots at an angle and the Shield absorbs and damages enemies, however, it requires energy, and you only have a limited amount of it available. You will have to use the perfect balance of all the offense and defense mechanics to survive in the game. The game offers easy-to-learn mechanics, but it is at the same time hard to master. You can play the game at any of the five difficulty levels in order to experience the game according to your own liking.

Eschatos also features a clean visual style which makes the game really pleasing visually. The transition from one stage to the next is smooth and there are no breaks or load times in the middle which would otherwise break the tempo of the gameplay. Apart from that, you will also have dynamic camera angles which really show off the colorful stage backgrounds and creative bizarre enemy designs. The soundtrack of Eschatos is composed by Yousuke Yasui and features high-energy, synth-heavy work which really immerses you into the game.

The Nintendo Switch and PS4 release of Eschatos will also include two of its spiritual predecessors and Qute’s first release, Judgment Silversword, and Cardinal Sins. Both of these games were released in 2004 for the WonderSwan Color and are among the finest looking and playing games of the handheld. Both of these games feature creative scoring mechanics. Playing these games will let you experience the elements that would later be used as a basis and be built upon by Eschatos, including gameplay elements or enemy designs.

Key features of Eschatos include:

  • Three games in one package:  Eschatos, Judgement Silversword, and Cardinal Sins
  • Exclusive to the Switch and PS4 versions of Eschatos: Improved load times, remastered soundtrack, and performance improvements
  • Original, Advanced, and Time Attack Mode
  • Three types of weapons:  Front Shot, Wide Shot, and Shield
  • Dynamic camera system, creating a sense of exhilarating speed
  • Five beautiful stages, including temple ruins, Earth’s orbit, and the alien moon base
  • Massive bosses, battle screen-filling UFOs, and other strange enemies
  • Online leaderboards and downloadable replay system
  • Phenomenal retro-synth soundtrack composed by Yousuke Yasui

Pre-orders for Eschatos are going live on May 21, 2023, and you will need to head over to the official website of Strictly Limited Games to place your pre-order. The physical versions, including both the Limited and the Collector’s Edition, of Eschatos are available exclusively through Strictly Limited Games. While pre-orders are going live now, shipping is expected to begin in Autumn 2023.
